Prevention “Four” Our Children
Child abuse impacts one out of every four children. It crosses every racial, gender, cultural, and socio-economic barrier.
The Prevention Education Department of the CAC offers the following programs. Schools are highly encouraged to schedule multiple programs for an even greater impact in protecting their students from abuse.
- 1) Is that Normal? Learn More About Your Child's Development
- This program is designed for parents with children between birth and 10 years. You will find out what behavior is normal for your child, how to handle the difficult “growing pains” all children go through, and appropriate ways to discipline (and encourage) your child.
- 2) What Now? Find Out What To Do If A Child Discloses Abuse or You Suspect a Child is Being Abused
- This program is designed for teachers, daycare workers, counselors, youth leaders, principals – anyone working with children. Educators will learn basic child abuse dynamics, recognition indicators, Tennessee reporting laws, and how to help families dealing with stress and trauma. This is a professional in–service and certificates of completion are available upon request.
- 3) Train the Trainer – Teach Body Safety to Your Students
- This program is designed for guidance counselors and other school leaders working with pre–school through 5th grade students. Guidance counselors will learn how to present our “Body Safety” lesson to their students. Upon completion of the training, guidance counselors will receive their “kit” containing videos, classroom activity sheets, take home materials for each student, and statistic documentation forms. Guidance counselors are asked to return their kit after 30 days and submit the completed statistic documentation.
- 4) Public Awareness
- This program is used to reach the entire community through billboards, radio and television advertisements, and newspaper and magazine articles and advertisements. These outreach opportunities will highlight the statistics of child abuse, reporting guidelines, myths & facts about child abuse, as well inform people about the CAC and their prevention programs.
All presentations are provided as an outreach of the Children's Advocacy Center of Hamilton County.
Presentations are available without charge to community organizations, churches, and schools. These Prevention Education programs can enhance the educational tools that your school, organization, or church are already using.
