Erlanger is a non-profit, academic teaching center affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Erlanger is recognized as one of the nation's finest public hospitals and a leader in healthcare. Each year, more than a quarter of a million people are treated by the team of healthcare professionals who are part of Erlanger. The CAC partners with Erlanger/T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital to help provide forensic medical exams for alleged victims of sexual or severe physical abuse. In July 2008, Volkswagen announced plans to open an assembly plant in Chattanooga bringing with it more than 2,000 jobs. The Chattanooga plant will produce a new mid-size sedan that is scheduled to start production in 2011.
